He died in 1972, at the age of sixty-three, a marginalized figure in his own obscure field and seldom mentioned outside of it.
But to close followers of the topsy-turvy GOP presidential primary, the late Saul Alinsky is suddenly becoming a household word. This is due, in large measure, to the mantra-like repetition of the name by Newt Gingrich, who invokes it every day on the campaign trail as part of his stump-speech indictment of President Obama.
“We need somebody who is a conservative and who can stand up to him and debate and who can clearly draw the contrast between the Declaration of Independence and the writings of Saul Alinsky,” Gingrich told a large crowd outside the Wings Plus restaurant in Coral Springs, Florida Wednesday.
U.S. Rep. Raul “Mr. Boycott Arizona” Grijalva says he may appeal directly to the White House for funds to expand and modernize the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz., since he can’t get Republican backing to fund the upgrades.
In a visit Friday to Somerton and San Luis, Ariz., Grijalva said he has gotten no support from Republican lawmakers for legislation he introduced in October, the Border Infrastructure and Jobs Act of 2011, which would earmark $80 million for upgrades and additional personnel at the San Luis port of entry.
”Unfortunately not one Republican congressman has responded, even though we have told them that if there’s some change to the proposal (that they want), we will be happy to do it,” said the Tucson Democrat, whose district includes Yuma County.

ABC News commentator George Stephanopoulos directed pointed, hard-edged questions to Republican presidential candidates during Saturday night’s New Hampshire debate, often attacking without providing evidence to justify his broadsides.
When questioning former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Stephanopoulos, a former senior advisor in the administration of Democratic President Bill Clinton, premised some inquiries on the assertion – offered without supporting facts – that Romney’s job-creation statistics were inaccurate.
“Now, there have been questions about that calculation of 100,000 jobs. So if you could explain it a little more,” Stephanopoulos asked Romney of the former governor’s claims about jobs created by companies he has helmed. “I’ve read some analysts who look at it and say that you’re counting the jobs that were created but not counting the jobs that were taken away. Is that accurate?”
Faces ‘resign now’ campaign as Cold Case Posse prepares Obama eligibility report
Just as famed Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is preparing to release results of his investigation of Barack Obama’s eligibility for Arizona’s 2012 ballot, a top-gun activist who led a successful campaign to recall a key Arpaio ally is now targeting the sheriff himself.
In the coming weeks, it will be decided whether transplanted radical attorney-activist and “community organizer” Randy “Open Borders” Parraz can force Arpaio to resign before the sheriff’s Cold Case Posse has a chance to deliver a report in February.
Parraz, who has made his career applying Saul Alinsky-style community organizer tactics for radical leftist movements in the U.S. and Canada, has told WND that Arpaio “has to go.”
Arpaio’s response: “No way will I resign,” he told WND.
A federal appeals court has ruled against an Arizona law that requires residents to prove their U.S. citizenship to register to vote, but upheld a part of the same law that mandates residents to show identification before voting.
The decision made by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Tuesday was part of an ongoing court battle surrounding Arizona’s Proposition 200.
Arizona passed the law in 2004, prompting legal challenges.
Mr. Boycott Arizona: DOJ finds evidence of racial profiling, constitutional violations by Joe Arpaio
Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today welcomed the release of damning Department of Justice (DOJ) findings in a long-standing civil rights investigation of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaioand praised the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for terminating its immigration enforcement contract with Arpaio’s office.
According to a summary of the report released earlier today, Arpaio and his staff suffer from “a chronic culture of disregard for basic legal and constitutional obligations.” Arpaio’s operation “engages in racial profiling of Latinos; unlawfully stops, detains and arrests Latinos; and unlawfully retaliates against individuals who complain about or criticize MCSO’s policies and practices,” among other violations, all of which are against federal law, the report says
A credible death threat against community activist Randy “Open Borders” Parraz is under investigation. Parraz led the successful recall effort against Senator Russell Pearce.
The same Arizona group that took down the state’s leading immigration hard-liner is now gunning for its best-known lawman.
Fresh off a successful drive to oust Republican state Senate President Russell Pearce this month, leaders of Citizens for a Better Arizona announced this week that they plan to form a “citizens posse” to challenge Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in his 2012 re-election bid. Sheriff Arpaio, who has carved out a national reputation for his no-nonsense treatment of lawbreakers in his county and for his running battles with the Obama administration and immigration advocates, is serving his fifth four-year term.
The group also is considering a recall election against Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, although organizers said they will do so only if at least 5,000 volunteers sign up online to circulate petitions.
“The main focus right now is Joe Arpaio. We’re looking at a bunch of different options to get rid of him,” said Chad Snow, chairman of Citizens for a Better Arizona.
