The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) have been making headlines, but what are they, exactly? Here are the facts.

SOPA and PIPA: Just the FactsThe Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act are getting more negative attention, as major websites such as Wikipedia plan to protest the bills with blackouts on Wednesday. Even Google will join the action, with a link on its homepage explaining why the company opposes the legislation.

But what are SOPA and PIPA, exactly, and why are tech luminaries lambasting legislation aimed at stamping out copyright infringement? Read on for a full explanation.

SOPA and PIPA: The Basics

Media companies are always looking for new ways to fight piracy. They’ve tried suing individual users, getting Internet service providers to take action against subscribers, and working with the U.S. government to shut down domains based in the United States. But none of those actions can stop overseas websites such as The Pirate Bay and MegaUpload from infringing copyrights, or prevent Internet users from accessing those sites.

The following table contains the legislative bill(s) that are coming up soon for action in our state legislature. Please contact everyone in the “who to contact” column and ask them to vote yes or no, depending on our wishes.

In most cases it is enough to just write a sentence as follows, “Please vote ___ on bill ______”, but if you want to be more forceful, you may want to say more and use some talking points.

Additionally, if a bill is scheduled to be heard in committee, make sure you register your comments via the “Request to Speak” program at http://alistrack.azleg.gov/rts/login.asp

(1) In most cases, contacting Democrats is a waste of effort, but feel free to contact them if you wish.

January 9, 2012
It’s our year now and it begins with fireworks!
Senator Bundgaard resigns
Wes Harris calls for the resignation of Sheriff Joe
Randy “Open Borders” Parraz to attend the opening session of the legislature January 9th
Randy Parraz and company to attend the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors
meeting January 11
Maricopa County Republican Committee Election January 14
Sheriff Joe will be our SPECIAL guest at our JANUARY 16th meeting
Pink underwear will be available
The following statement has been provided by one of our Evening Edition Arizona 2012 Project members.  It is worthy of mention and reprint:
“According to Parraz’s Facebook page he will be gathering his circus act at the capitol this Monday (9th) at 10am in an attempt to intimidate our governor and legislators before they even get started. (“Join Citizens for a Better Arizona as we send a message to our Governor and legislators that the Russell Pearce brand of divisive and extreme politics is over. For more information contact us at (480) 748-8991 or at info@citizensforabetteraz.org.”)
Are we going to stand up to them and show our legislators that we will support those who stand up for us… or will we just sit quietly at home and LET Parraz and his people continue to bulldoze us with their progressive, pro open borders/La Raza agenda until we have no politicians left on our side???

2012 is supposed to be the year that we take back our country from the progressives. We will never do that if we can’t keep our states out of their hands… and we won’t keep our states out of their hands if we don’t get up off our duffs and FIGHT THEM!

November, 17th – State Capitol
Rally & Press Conference – 11:00 AM

Hearing 1:00 PM – Senate Room 1

Last year Arizona’s Apache Sitgreaves Forest provided the Nation’s Christmas tree.  A year later, 538,049 acres of that forest were burned.  The Wallow Fire destroyed critical habitat for owls and fish, polluted our air and caused economic harm to our citizens and rural communities.

Citizens of Apache County will be bringing a burned fir tree to our Capitol to remind us  of the importance  of  forest management and putting an end to these catastrophic fires.  The fire may be over, but the consequences remain.

Please join us on November 17 for this important press conference and hearing.

Re: US House bill HR2885 – The Legal Workforce Act

Our Position: We OPPOSE this bill in its present form because it would undo our own employer sanction law.

Background: HR2885 was introduced 09/12/2011 by Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas . It ostensibly sets up an E-verify system for the federal government.

Proponents’ Argument: We need a federal law because states like California and New York will never pass an employee sanction law like we did in AZ in 2007.
