Maricopa County Republicans Honor Precinct Committeemen PDF Print E-mail

Nearly 300 Maricopa County Republican gathered recently at a Lincoln Day Luncheon at the Elks Club in North Phoenix to paid tribute to the precinct committee (PC) who are the backbone of the party, according to Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) Chairman Tom Husband.

Sandy Doty and John Acer were presented with Lincoln busts, the county's highest award.  This award is presented to a precinct committeeman for longevity and activity of party service. This coveted award can only be presented once to a recipient.

Acer, from Legislative District (LD) 11, has been an active PC for decades, is a past district chairman, and has served as the President of the Arizona Republican Assembly.

Doty, is an officer for LD12 and the MCRC Executive Guidance Committee is the Sun Lakes Republican Club Chairman and volunteers countless hours at the State GOP headquarters.

Gene Gannsle and Frosty Taylor received Ronald Reagan plaques. These top awards have the same criteria as the Lincoln bust, but the recipients may have served shorter longevity with the party.

Ganssle of LD17 has been a party activist for many years, is past candidate for the Tempe City Council, is a participant in the Temp Town Hall, and directed the "Welcome to the Party" DVD -  a training tool providing an introduction to the duties of a PC that has been circulated state-wide.

Taylor of LD4 is the public relations liaison for MCRC and LD4 Republicans and established an e-mail network throughout the county. She is the publicity chairman for Sun City West Republicans and Arrowhead Republican Women, and is the founder and Chairman of the Wickenburg Republican Club.

Volunteer of the Year certificates went to Jan Martinson, Lynne Weaver, Paula Linker, Chuck Carpenter, Marc Adell, Joanna Young, Bobbie Watts, Dan Grimm and Roxanne Callahan

Outstanding PC certificates went to:

LD4 - Karen Thomas, Davette Fowler, Joan Hermsmeyer, Patsy Denne, 

LD6 - Outstanding PCs - Carol Turoff, Carl Seel, Paul Theut, Brian Newsome, Keith Diggs, and Carolyn Newsome.

LD7 -Harry Reese. Mark Ellis, George Garbell, Howard Sprague, Laverna Rodriquez, Jim Otis, Marian Otis, April Riggins, and Brenda Barry.

LD8 -Ann Flora, Chris Roden, Kathy Littlefield, Frederica Sinclair , Arlie Denomme,  Harold Denomme, Joe Skehen, and Debbie Skehen

LD9 - Elizabeth Rohn-Nelson, Dale Latham, Wanda Bundy and Dorothy Heitzel.

LD10 -Edward Lynch, Jr. and Larry Gray.

LD11 -Alan Bird, Laurie Bird, Patrick Todd, Vickie Todd, Fred Duren, Tony Ford, Jeff Greenspan, Patricia Humphrey, Robert Rosanelli and Nicholous Fletcher.

LD12 -Joe Marvin, Rhonda King, and Christina Miller

LD16 -John Eveleigh.

LD19 -Sicely Bradshaw, Emmy Lou Johnson, Verna Nichols, Justin Olson, Leonard Palace, Laurie Palace, Jerry Richards, Judy Richards and Bill Whitehead.

SCW Republican Women Forming PDF Print E-mail

Republican Women living in Sun City West are forming a new group to be known as the Sun City West Republican Women.

The group plans to meet only twice a year with no dues or committees."Our purpose is to meet other Republican women living in Sun City West and to make new friends," said Karen Thomas, the groups coordinator.  She added,"we will be encouraging our women to get involved by volunteering for various Republican activities and to stay current on political issues.  We will act as a support group for the  Arrowhead Republican Women's Club and the Sun City West Republican Club.

Anyone interested in learning more about this new group should call Karen Thomas at 623-215-8777.

Maricopa County Republicans Win Top Awards at GOP Chairman’s Banquet PDF Print E-mail

Maricopa County Republicans took most of the top awards presented at the recent State GOP Chairman's Awards Banquet held in Phoenix.

GOP Chairman Randy Pullen presented the following GOP Awards to:

  • Sen. Barry Goldwater Award - John Rutledge - Legislative District (LD) 21.
  • Gov.  Howard Pyle Award - Patricia Oldroyd (LD19).
  • Outstanding Services to The Arizona Republican Party - Alberto Gutier  (LD11 )
  • Volunteer Excellence Award - George Teegarden (LD11), Elaine Gangluff (LD 11), and Sandy Doty (LD21).
  • Lifetime Achievement Award -  Leo Mahoney (LD21)
  • Tireless Work Against All Odds Award - Marne Haney (LD11)

Debbie Lesko, GOP Awards Committee Chairman, presented outstanding service awards to the following Maricopa County Republican activitists:

  • Cal Holman Award for the Most Outstanding Party Worker in the State - Frosty Taylor (LD4). Taylor, the public relations chairman for the Maricopa County Republicans, LD4, the Arrowhead Republican Women, and the Sun City West Republicans. She is also Chairman of the Wickenburg Republican Club.
  • Most Outstanding County Chairman - Lyle Tuttle of Maricopa County (LD4) Tuttle set a firm foundation for the MCRC and the effect of his accomplishments will be felt for years to come. He has gained the respect and admiration of many. During his term he has increased funding, increased the number of PCs and voter registration, developed a five-year strategic plan, opened two county offices, developed a county-wide email communication system, gave the districts additional tools to participate in local elections, developed a training CD for PC's, and instituted a rewards program to encourage voter registration and PC recruitment. Lyle recently retired his chairmanship due to health concerns.
  • Most Outstanding Party Worker in A District - Chuck Carpenter (LD 9) who served as Chairman of the 2006 GOP State Fair Booth and the 2007 MCRC Fair Booth where hundreds of Republicans registered to vote. He was also a MCRC Member-At -Large and is the current MCRC Sun City Office manager.
  • Most Outstanding Districts in Overall Performance - LD 6 and LD8.  LD6, chaired by David Braswell is leading Maricopa County in the number of appointed precinct committeemen. LD8, chaired by Royce Flora, is committed to the successful return of Congressional District 5 to Republican control, ensuring the election of a Republican Mayor in Scottsdale and a Republican majority on the city council.
  • Outstanding Volunteer medal winners from Maricopa County are Cal Holman (LD8) - Posthumously, Horst Kraus (LD6), and Marilyn LaFoe (LD21).

    The awards committee consisted of Lesko, Bill Bridwell, Parralee Schneider, Sean McCaffrey, and Larry Pickard.
