Northern Parkway project groundbreaking ceremonies were held today
on the first phase of the Northern Parkway, one of the major east-west projects in the Northwest Valley. The initial phase, from Sarival Avenue to Dysart Road, will be completed in 13 months. Ultimately, the roadway will extend 12.5 miles connecting the Loop 303 Freeway with Grand Avenue/US 60.
Groundbreaking will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Northern Avenue just west of Dysart Road, and brings together the major state, federal, regional, municipal and county partners involved in this project. Most of the construction costs are being paid for by voter-approved Proposition 400 revenues. Both the Maricopa County Department of Transportation and the City of Glendale have advanced their local funding share so that Phase 2 projects could also proceed.
“Northern Parkway will serve as a Gateway to this part of the West Valley and will foster job-creating development,” Max W. Wilson, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, said. “Between our prime contractor, Lawrence Construction and his 22 subcontractors, this project will put to work upwards of 250 people over a period of 13 months. I’m always happy to see new road construction. It means progress.”

This one is “connected to the murder of Immigration and Customs (ICE) Agent Jaime Zapata,” which took place in February 2011. And suffice it to say, AG Eric Holder is on the hot seat all over again.
Mitt Romney, after fending off Rick Santorum in his home state of Michigan, is fast-approaching the biggest test so far of his volatile front-runner status: next week’s Super Tuesday contests where 419 delegates are up for grabs.
The former Massachusetts governor charges into those 10 contests with a head of steam, after securing back-to-back victories Tuesday night in Michigan and Arizona.
The only stop along the way is the Washington state caucus contest this Saturday.
Romney will have to unleash the force of his campaign juggernaut, as his competitors are still polling strong in key Super Tuesday states.
Rick Santorum, who placed second in both contests on Tuesday, is leading in most recent polls out of Ohio. Newt Gingrich is leading in Georgia, the state he used to represent in Congress.

In January and February of this year, the Internal Revenue Service began sending out letters to various local Tea Parties across the country. Mailed from the same Cincinnati, Ohio IRS office, these letters have reached Tea Parties in Virginia, Hawaii, Ohio, and Texas (we are hearing of more daily). There are several common threads to these letters: all are requesting more information from these independent Tea Parties in regard to their nonprofit 501(c)(4) applications (for this type of nonprofit, donations are not deductible). While some of the requests are reasonable, much of them are strikingly onerous and, dare I say, Orwellian in nature.
What are local Tea Partiers to think with requests like “Please identify your volunteers” or “are there board members or officers who have run or will run for office (including relatives)”? What possible reason would the IRS have for Tea Parties to “name your donors” when said donations are non-deductible? These are just a few of the questions asked by the IRS in these letters, and one cannot help but suspect an intrinsic threat encompassing all these demands.
