STOP THE RUMOR MILL: Clinton and the UN Arms Trade Treaty Rumor. May 28, 2010. (NRA) We continue to receive numerous inquiries regarding UN international treaties, and their impact on our Second Amendment rights. The latest rumor making its way around the Internet claims that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton actually signed a UN small arms treaty.
Contrary to this widely circulated e-mail, Hillary Clinton has not signed any small arms treaty. She could not have done so, in fact, because no such treaty has yet been negotiated.
We noted in an update from last November, the UN Arms Trade Treaty will be drafted between now and 2012, and even if signed, would not take effect in the U.S. Until it was ratified by the Senate.
Please rest assured that, as we said in November, NRA will be actively involved in this process and will oppose any treaty that would attempt to impose limits on our Second Amendment rights. In the meantime, we urge gun owners to follow this issue in NRA’s magazines and NRA-ILA’s Grassroots Alerts. We also urge gun owners not to circulate misinformation on this issue.
ANOTHER HOAX: The ultra-fancy jail facility supposedly built in McCook, IL is actually in Austra.

A few days ago I wrote an article entitled “The EPA can go to Hell, and I will go to Texas“. The article pointed out that Texas could (and does) favorably manage it’s own environmental policy while maintaining a superior economy. Both of which the federal government has failed to do. The EPA’s goal is simple: accrual of more power into the hands of the gluttonous feds.
For the last week, Governor Perry and the Texas legislature have been rattling the 10th amendment sabers and highlighting the success of the Texas policies. However, this week, the EPA officially took over control of the permitting process for one of these Texas refineries. EPA Region 6 Administrator Al Armendariz stated that the EPA is prepared to take over Texas’ entire permitting process. Now that the EPA has made it’s move, it is time for Texas leaders to quit talking and take significant action.
Here are concrete steps that the state of Texas needs to take to reassert it’s Constitutional right to govern without federal intrusion. Nullification, based on the 10th amendment and our founding principles of federalism, is the legal answer to a federal government that seeks to centralize power without restraint.

“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction,” said German psychologist Erich Fromm. Whatever greed does to one’s psyche, it does even worse things to public budgets. California, sinking amidst a structural $19 billion deficit and facing as much as one-half-trillion-dollars in pension debt, is paying the price for years of legislators giving away the store to public employee unions.

Yet even as unlikely sources (former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, Treasurer Bill Lockyer and California Public Employees’ Retirement System chief actuary Ron Seeling) recognize the grave threat outrageous pension deals pose to the state’s long-term fiscal health, the state’s unions and Democratic leaders continue to operate as if there is no problem. The public seems increasingly agitated by the injustice of a situation that requires private sector workers to work late into life to pay the higher taxes needed so that public sector workers can retire in their early 50s with six-figure, cost-of-living-adjusted deals. But to the politicians, the unions still rule.
In my old haunts of Orange County, Calif., a particularly nasty race for the Board of Supervisors has been unfolding in the past month. On June 8, voters in that heavily Republican and generally anti-union county will fill the slot of a supervisor who has since been elected to the state Assembly.
Back in January, party leader Scott Baugh threw down the gauntlet after watching one Republican after another sell out to the state’s unions. In what has been referred to as the Baugh Manifesto, Baugh slammed Republicans for their role in expanding debt. He promised to use the party to hold Republicans accountable. He called for the party to do more than just endorse those with an “R” after their name. He made two specific demarcations: No Republican will get party support without backing a now-dead Paycheck Protection Initiative, which limits the ability of unions to use dues for political purposes. And no Republican will get party support “who receives contributions from public employee unions.”

PHOENIX About 700 people gathered at the state Capitol to wave American flags, carry signs and share personal stories of how illegal immigration has affected them
A contingent of 15 Orange County residents joined crowds who stood in 105-degree heat to rally in support of Arizona’s new immigration enforcement law – the toughest and most controversial in the nation.

Fueled by the fear of what they call “an invasion,’’ participants applauded and cheered and some even cried as speakers addressed the crowd. The rally is part of a call by anti-illegal-immigration activists urging supporters to “buycott” Arizona by buying items made in the state or planning a vacation there.
Barbara Coe, leader of the Huntington Beach-based California Coalition for Immigration Reform, greeted the crowd about 4:30 p.m. with, “Good afternoon fellow victims.’’
Coe urged the crowd to call their representatives to let them know they support Arizona’s law and to oppose what she called amnesty.
“It is now our responsibility to stand up and be counted,’’ she said to cheers and hoots. “This is our turning point. The traitors have underestimated the power of Americans no mas.
“God forbid it should come to this but if it should come to this, lock and load,’’ she said.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the law, which requires law-enforcement officers who have already stopped someone on suspicion of a violation to question that person about his or her immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” the person might be in the country illegally.

From Seeing Red AZ
The Mexican government was in the midst of opening a satellite consular office on Catalina Island — a small resort off the California coast with a history of drug smuggling and human trafficking — to provide the island’s illegal Mexican immigrants with identification cards,
Mexico’s consular office in Los Angeles issued a flier, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Examiner, listing the Catalina Island Country Club as the location of its satellite office. It invites Mexicans to visit the office to obtain the identification, called matricular cards, by appointment.
Not long after a strong condemnation from Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican whose district includes Catalina Island, Mexican government officials moved their satellite office from the Country Club to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Avalon — citing protection under the Geneva Convention.
“If the Catholic Church insists on preventing immigration law from being enforced, then they should step up and pay the bill. Let the Catholic Church open up its schools for free and use their vast resources to pay for the benefits of illegals if they feel it’s such a moral issue,” said Rep. Rohrabacher. “I don’t exactly see Cardinal Mahoney announcing the sale of Catholic Church property to pay the bills for illegal immigration. This holier than thou hypocrisy has got to stop,” Rohrabacher was quoted in the Washington Examiner.
Seeing Red AZ has previously written about Cardinal Roger Mahoney when he shamelessly compared Arizona’s new law dealing with illegal immigration to Nazism. The Cardinal must have a lapse of memory, forgetting that Arizona is merely enforcing its border. Our law mirrors federal law. There is no systematic slaughter of innocents.
Rep. Rohrabacher is deserving of praise for his forthright statements.

Who is primarily to blame for the MSM putting Rand Paul through the cable TV shredder last month? Regrettably, it is Paul himself.
As we saw last month, Rand Paul was victorious in Kentucky’s Republican Senate primary. Hurrah! This was fantastic news for supporters of liberty but horrendous news for leftists. The last thing our antagonists need in the Senate is for another die-hard freedom-promoter to assist Jim DeMint in his unwavering battle against statism. Given the obvious failings of the Obama administration, the mood of the country, and the demographics of the Bluegrass State it is quite likely that Paul will win in the general election. Regardless of this eventuality, the left is out to destroy him as assessing odds, percentages, and the possibility of unforeseen consequence are distinctly conservative habits. Utopians with enormous political libidos will never allow reality to interfere with dogmatics.
Enter Rand Paul, to whom the media now affixes the unique and clever moniker of “Racist!” This invective is illustrative of the left’s perennial stance on both intellectual diversity and criticism of their positions.
Anybody who questions them is branded with some kind of “ism.” Ah, the only things that never change are the avant-garde and the nefarious tactics of pseudo-liberals.
In light of Paul’s sterling pedigree — he is the son of libertarian and constitutional conservative hero Dr. Ron Paul (Rand is a doctor as well) — his is a candidacy that must be derailed because, to our foes, the ends always justify the means.
