Phoenix – Proving once and for all that he will take a stance on a forgone conclusion, perennial gubernatorial candidate Terry Goddard has flip-flopped once again with his recently announced support of Arizona’s temporary sales tax increase.
With the state’s early voters already casting their vote on Proposition 100 in advance of the May 18th special election, Terry Goddard has decided to support temporarily increasing the state’s sales tax by a penny after characterizing the sales tax increase as a “shell game.”
‘Terry Goddard changes direction more often than a jellyfish,” said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen. “Which is an appropriate comparison, because he seemingly lacks a backbone and is nearly as transparent. With public opinion polls indicating that Prop. 100 will pass, he apparently doesn’t want to be on the wrong side of this fence and endanger his campaign for Governor. I’m only surprised that it took this long for him to reverse course.
“When is Terry going to learn that voters respect leaders who take a stand on an issue and stick with it, regardless of the political ramifications,” continued Pullen. “That’s what leaders do.”
House Republicans unveil initiative to target government spending: House Republicans launched a new effort Wednesday designed to show their party is responding to voter backlash about excessive government spending. Dubbed “YouCut,” the initiative invites the public to vote online, or text on their cell phone, which government programs they want to put on the chopping block. The House GOP will list five federal programs each week on a new website and ask people to vote for which one they think deserves to be cut. Republican leaders pledged that they will fight for a full vote each week on the House floor to eliminate the program that gets the most votes.

The government response was made in a lawsuit filed by the Thomas More Law Center, a Michigan-based law firm involved in conservative issues. Message from Phx City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: Friends and Neighbors – Your property tax is about to go up. In the last four months, the City of Phoenix has imposed on you and your family:

A new food tax (up $50 million per year)

Increased water rates ($30 million per year; a 40% increase over 5 years)

Increased sewer rates ($3 million this year)

Increased fees on small business
And now the City of Phoenix wants to raise your property tax rate, even though your property values have gone down. All of these fees and taxes were imposed to afford an average cost of $100,000 per city employee – that’s for all 14,000 employees. This could all be fixed if Phoenix simply would restructure operations.
My office has asked Phoenix to address the high cost of labor at City Hall. Instead, the city has chosen the easy route of raising taxes and fees on you, the public; all of which I opposed.
At 2 p.m. May 25, Phoenix will consider raising your property tax rate under the guise of a “floating rate.” That means your taxes will “float” up.
