OBAMA/MEDIA vs. ARIZONA AMERICA by Lloyd Marcus http://www.newswithviews.com/Marcus/lloyd131.htm Washington Times: GOP to Insist on 10th Amendment Republicans are so determined to stop what they say is abusive and unlawful expansion of the federal government under President Obama that they are willing to abdicate power to the states to do it. Taking its cue from the Bill of Rights, the Republican Study Committee, a group of conservative House Republicans, says that the 10th Amendment dictates that initiatives such as the health care reform law and other massive government programs are the business of state governments, not Washington. LA Times: Holder Defends Reading Miranda Rights to Terror Suspect Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday defended reading terrorism suspects their Miranda rights, arguing that needed intelligence could still be gathered, as was shown in the recent failed attack near Times Square. Testifying before a Senate panel considering a 6% increase in his department’s budget, Holder said reading the Miranda rights against self-incrimination had not created problems, as some critics of the administration policy have argued. Charles Krauthammer: How to Modernize Miranda for the Age of Terror The authorities deserve full credit for capturing Shahzad within 54 hours. Credit is also due them for obtaining information from him by invoking the “public safety” exception to the Miranda rule. But then Shahzad was Mirandized. If he had decided to shut up, it would have denied us valuable information — everything he is presumably telling us now about Pakistani contacts, training, plans for other possible plots beyond the Times Square attack. WSJ: Plan For Congressional Audits of Fed Dies in Senate Last-minute maneuvering in the Senate allowed the Federal Reserve to sidestep legislation that would have exposed its interest-rate decision-making to congressional auditors. Pressure from the Obama administration led Senate lawmakers to alter a provision pushed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) that was gaining momentum despite opposition from the Treasury and the Fed. It would have largely repealed a 32-year-old law that shields Fed monetary policy from congressional auditors. Never before in history have active-duty American troops been invited to march in the Victory Day parade, according to the United States military. The occasion is the 65th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, a date that carries an almost sacred meaning in Russia. Russian leaders have taken pains to explain that the Americans — along with contingents from Britain, France and Poland — were invited as representatives of the “anti-Hitler coalition.” While more than half of Russians greeted the invitation with approval or enthusiasm, according to an April poll by the independent Levada Center, the sentiment was not universal. In a country that still regards NATO as its primary security threat, 20 percent of respondents said they disapproved and 8 percent were dead set against it.
